FAQs

  • To keep our chicks safe, warm, and thriving, we have different minimums depending on how your order is fulfilled:

    • Local Pickup (Barrington, NH): Minimum of 3 chicks

    • Shipped Orders: Minimum of 10 chicks

Chicks are social animals and rely on each other for warmth and comfort in their earliest days. They’re not yet able to regulate their own body temperature, so being part of a group helps reduce stress and supports healthy development.

For pickup orders, fewer than 3 isn't recommended—they need that group support to settle in well once you bring them home.

For shipping, 10 is the minimum needed to keep the group warm and stable during transit. Sending fewer puts the entire box at risk of chilling, injury, or loss.

You're welcome to mix and match breeds to meet the minimum. They’ll still huddle for warmth and bond like a single flock!

  • Yes, most of our customers pick up their eggs and chicks in Barrington, NH. The exact pickup address is shared after your order is confirmed.

We also offer shipping within the United States. Chicks are sent as day-olds through USPS and packed to stay warm and safe in transit. Depending on the time of year and your location, we may suggest scheduling around weather to give them the best chance of arriving healthy.

If you're not sure whether shipping is a good fit for your order, just reach out and we’ll talk it through.

  • We ship hatching eggs for a flat $25 and day-old chicks for a flat $50.
If you order both in one order, you’ll see the rates combined at checkout.
This helps us cover packaging, handling, and USPS shipping for two very different types of live items.  Thank you for your understanding!

  • “Straight run” (also called “unsexed”) means the chicks haven’t been sorted by gender. They’re too young to tell if they’ll grow up to be hens or roosters.

Because we hatch naturally and don’t use industrial sexing methods, we can’t guarantee how many males or females you’ll get. Most customers end up with a mix. It’s part of the process when raising chicks from day one. 😊

  • You'll want to have a brooder ready before your chicks arrive. A brooder is a warm, draft-free space where they can eat, sleep, and stay safe. It can be something as simple as a large cardboard box, a storage bin, or a kiddie pool lined with bedding — anything that holds warmth and keeps them contained.

You'll also need a heat source like a heat plate or lamp, chick starter feed, bedding, a waterer, and a feeder. The setup should stay clean, dry, and away from pets or young kids.
